The series B round of funding, led by the highly esteemed venture capital company Venrock, helped Hyper9 Inc raise $8million. The existing investors Matrix Partners, Maples Investments, and Silverton Partners also participated in the funding round of Hyper9 - a firm well-known for providing management information for virtual infrastructures.

Thanks to a few high-ranking investors, the research paper-inclined desktop and web application maker Mendeley has managed to hitch $2 million in an early-stage funding. 

The second funding round for the San Jose, California-based content-compression software maker Ocarina Networks brought in an investment of $20 million. The round, led by Jafco Ventures, also included current investors - Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Highland Capital Partners - who, together with others, had raised $11 million in the previous round. 

After having closed its second funding round in January, data warehousing startup Aster Data Systems has added another $5 million to its closed round, with the add-up investment coming from new investor Institutional Venture Partners (IVP). With the additional funds, Aster's total funds have touched $27 million.

In its third round of funding, the startup Appirio, which puts together various online business applications and platforms, has raised $10 million. The funding round, marking a $16.7 million total raising, was led by GGV Capital - with an $8.2 million investment - and included earlier investor Sequoia Capital, with a $1.8 million contribution.

The $11.5 million third private funding round has been closed by Rivulet Communications, which is a market leader in mission-critical and real-time video applications over IP networks - its technology enables faultless HD medical video on the hospital IP network.

Dow Jones VentureSource data released on Wednesday indicated that the financial meltdown notwithstanding, venture capital investment in China, India and Israel still registered a rise last year, even though the figures plunged in the US! 

After reporting a year of robust growth, CampusExplorer - a web-based company facilitating search about educational institutions - announced a second funding round of $2.25 million, led by OCA Venture, with participation from Origin Ventures and current financier Rincon Venture Partners. 

Making a new addition to his list of titles in the tech arena is Marc Andreessen - along with being a browser technology pioneer, a serial entrepreneur, and an angel investor, he has now become a venture capitalist too!

The San Francisco-based online advertising system, Halogen Network, recently announced having raised $5 million in 2007, in a second funding round.
