AT&T apparently is on its way to best take advantage of forthcoming LTE 4G technology, thanks to its new partnership with TerreStar Networks which has brought the two companies together to work on Genus - a smartphone with dual satellite and cellular connectivity.

According to a Tuesday announcement by AT&T, the Garmin Nuvifone G60 will become available in the US October 4 onwards, exclusively at AT&T stores and online, for $299 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. For an additional $5.99 per month charge, users can have access to premium content like traffic updates, weather, movie times, and fuel prices.

AT&T have finally brought the much-requested multimedia messaging service (MMS) to the smartphones in the US, thereby enabling countless iPhone users to send picture and video messages to other phones.

In its Friday letter written to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), AT&T said that Google's supposed support for net neutrality is flouted by its non-compliance with the rules - evident from the fact that its Voice service does not connect phone calls in some rural areas.

According to information forwarded by AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel, the company's new 3G Microcell devices, launched on Monday, are available to its customers in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Going by a Wednesday announcement by AT&T, the company has worked out clear-cut plans to upgrade its wireless network, aiming at increasing its speed by two times, in six US cities by the end of the year. The cities that will receive the network upgrade include Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami.

Apple Inc. and AT&T are all set to boost customer satisfaction by implementing new carrier-specific features through iPhone software updates.

Apple-insider confirmed that some of the potential changes include the implementation of Visual Voicemail, overage alerts, which warns users when they are close to exceeding their monthly minutes.

As per the information forwarded by AT&T on Thursday, a September 25 update for the Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS will enable the US-based users of these devices to avail the multimedia messaging service. The long-awaited functionality would allow users to send MMS text messages, after they download the forthcoming software update.

In the most recent lawsuit filed against Apple and its partner AT&T, the third case to have been filed in August, yet another iPhone user, Deborah Carr, has complained that the companies misrepresented the iPhone’s ability of multimedia messaging (MMS).

Going by the statistics put forth by a recent 'call quality' study by J. D. Power and Associates, the biggest US cellular operator Verizon has bagged the overall top position in the six US regions, ranking the highest in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southwest regions.
