Ford to invest $490m in 3rd vehicle assembly plant in China

Ford Motor Co. said announced on Friday its plan to spend $490 million on building a third assembly plant in China in a move that will help the company in improving its performance in the world's strongest market.

The US automaker will run the new plant with its Chinese partner Chongqing Changan Automobile co. and Japan's Mazda Motor Corp.

Ford staff on cost cutting spree

Ford Motor Co. Executive Chairman Bill Ford and Chief Executive Officer Alan Mulally have decided a 30 percent pay cut in their salaries. He salaried workers will sacrifice 
2009 bonuses. The local officers of the United Auto Workers have also approved cuts in overtime and layoffs. 

Ford reports fourth-quarter loss of $5.9 billion

Ford Motor's fourth-quarter net loss is more profound that what was being expected. The $5.9 billion net loss of the automaker went up from its same quarter year-earlier loss of $2.8 billion.

Excluding one-time items, Ford's losses were $3.3 billion, or $1.37 per share, while analysts had estimated a loss of $1.30 per share.
