Putting it plainly, 'The Spirit' is a 'forgettable' adaptation of Will Eisner's 1940s comic of the same name, as it turns the writer's iconic work into an agonizingly awkward caricature.

'Valkyrie', Hollywood's latest film to digging into Nazi Germany, is publicized as a thriller rather than an issues' film - it is based on the true story of a German colonel, Claus von Stauffenberg, who attempted to assassinate Hitler.

Tom Cruise’s new film ‘Valkyrie’, which opens Thursday at Bay Area theaters, is a real conspiracy suspense thriller, telling the story of a German national hero -  Col. Claus von Stauffenberg - whose actions serve as an eternal testament that many Germans did not support Hitler.

Directed by Peyton Reed, and starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel, ‘Yes Man’, supposedly a romantic comedy is hardly anything like an ideal family night out at the movies, due to its adult humor. The film suffers from a severe case of mediocrity, with Carrey fidgeting frantically to kick-start the proceedings beyond the heavy chains of formula, but all in vain!

Director Ron Howard’s “Frost/Nixon” is a gripping film version of the play by screenwriter Peter Morgan, and yet another historical episode captured with profound artistry by Howard and a magnificent cast.

With ‘Gran Torino’, star and director Clint Eastwood – whose most iconic roles have been serious ones – depicts terrific timing with his sly sense of humor.
