SEC proposes ban on ‘Flash’ trading

US Securities and Exchange Commission

The US Securities and Exchange Commission voted unanimously to propose a ban on the practice of flashing marketable orders.

The SEC said Flash Orders, which are send to a selected group of traders, fraction of a second before making them public, could provide hedge-funds lead over other investors.

Obama expected to nominate Mary Schapiro as SEC chairwoman

Mary Schapiro, chief executive of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (Finra), is expected to be nominated as the chairwoman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), by the President-elect Barack Obama in Chicago on Thursday.
