The US Food and Drug Administration is scheduled to meet in March this year to tighten its noose around tanning beds once again. This would be done as lot of youngsters are opting tanning beds too often.

Says Dr Emilia Ploplys, a plastic surgeon at the Great Falls Clinic, said, “A nice, healthy glow is always something that people think looks good and for many, hopping into a tanning bed is the way to do it. But is it the best way?”

The World Health Organization last summer stated that tanning beds are definite cancer causers and not only carcinogens. A belief which the FDA is planning to follow.

Dr Ploplys stated that the amount of radiations given by tanning beds are carcinogens and these radiations increases. Tanning bed increases the chances of melanoma by 75 per cent.

Stating the contrary Greg Hall from Gold’s Gym said that tanning beds have some positive health benefits too as these beds produce natural Vitamin D.

With some reports stating that the warning labels appearing on these beds are too small, the industry is open to some change in warning labels, to enable its user in understanding the process in detail.
