Target Corp., on Tuesday, officially announced that it will now cease the sale of fresh, frozen or smoked farm-raised salmon, across all its stores country-wide.
The second-largest discount retailer of America has stressed that all the salmon which will now be sold under the Target brand will be "wild-caught Alaskan salmon". By the end of the current year Sushi, which includes farmed salmon, will also be changed over the wild-caught salmon.
The switch over, according to the company, was made "to ensure that its salmon offerings are sourced in a sustainable way that helps to preserve abundance, species health and doesn't harm local habitats".
All renowned companies have now started to shift over to wild-caught salmon, thanks to the increasing pressure by customers and environmentalists.
"Target strives to be a responsible steward of the environment, while also providing our guests with the highest-quality food choices", said Greg Duppler, Senior Vice President of Merchandising.
