Plane reporting traffic over New Jersey makes emergency landing

New Jersey makes emergency landing

A small Cessna 152 single-engine plane made an emergency landing on the New Jersey Turnpike, a little before 7 a. m. on Monday, apparently due to some engine trouble while the crew aboard was involved in reporting traffic for radio and TV stations over New Jersey.

Pilot Frank A. Vogt, 28, deciding to land the plane without any delay when it showed low oil pressure, smoothly glided the plane in the northbound lane of the New Jersey Turnpike, two miles towards the south of Exit 4.

As per the reports, the three crew-members - of Philadelphia’s KYW Newsradio and KYW-TV - aboard the Cessna were safe after the emergency landing of the plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration has initiated an investigation into the incident.

Built in 1981, the Cessna 152 is owned by Wilmington, Del.-based Out of the Blue, Inc. After the landing, the plane was loaded onto a truck and carried to a New Jersey Turnpike Authority maintenance yard, close to Exit 5.

Meanwhile, for the young pilot Vogt, who has been flying professionally for barely two years, the incident was a “surreal” experience. Talking to the media, Vogt said: “I was calm and prepared for this, but you never expect that you may actually do something like this one day.”
