Apple internally acknowledges problematic screen issues of 27-inch iMac

Despite the fact that Apple has thus far not publicly acknowledged the 27-inch iMac’s problematic and widely-complained-about issues, like cracked screen and flickering videos, its internal tech support document has recently revealed that the company is fully aware of the problem. No wonder the company has delayed the shipment of the recent orders of this particular iMac model!

According to customer complaints, the problem pertains to the appearance of either vertical or horizontal stripes on the screen, or else a highly noticeable yellowish tint in one corner of the screen.

To fix the problem of the rather pricey $1,700 iMac model, Apple had, on December 21, released an update - titled “27-inch iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0,” which did not resolve the screen issue for most of the users.

As such, the company yet again released a new update – the “27-inch iMac Display Firmware Update 1.0,” with a slight variation over the earlier one; apparently attempting to alter the display firmware itself, instead of that of the graphics card.

A Gizmodo reader who tried to work out a solution to the problem on his own has said that the underlying cause is the coating of the LED-backlight-scattering material behind the LCD. He noted that possibly this material goes awry during shipping, thereby resulting in an uneven color temperature in some areas of the backlight.
