Oprah Urges Viewers to Get Tested for Type 2 Diabetes at Walgreens

On Thursday, popular television celebrity Oprah Winfrey urged her viewers to get to Walgreens today and get a screening done for Type 2 Diabetes.

The icon's Thursday show was focused on the disease, which is considered as one of the biggest heath crisis in the US. Diabetes is a problem for the whole of US in general, and Alabama in particular.

The 24-hour operational Walgreens at East Glenn Avenue and North Dean Road in Auburn is now offering free testing of blood sugar levels from 11 AM to 7 PM today.

“Our culture is becoming heavier and less active, starting with small children and going through elder age. The incidence of Type 2 diabetes is on the rise. Alabama has the highest rate except for Mississippi of the incidence of Type 2 diabetes", said Trish Block, diabetes resource coordinator at the East Alabama Medical Center, Opelika.

As shared by the American Diabetes Association, over 6 million Americans are currently unaware that they are diabetic.
