Youngsters more prone to heart diseases in Canada

Some figures regarding the overall health of Canadians was stated by the Heart and Stroke Foundation, which is actually a cause of concern. Details state that a majority of youngsters are more at a risk of heart diseases.

Heart & Stroke Foundation Spokeswoman Rhea Ann Bromley stated, "They have cholesterol levels and blood pressure levels that used to be typical of much older adults and now we're seeing it in people who are in their 20s and 30s."

Bromley said unhealthy lifestyle was the main culprit of the disease on a rise. The number of people who were 35 to 49 years old was up to 127 per cent who had complaints of high blood pressure.

Saskatchewan was the found to be most at risk as compared to other parts of Canada. It is ranked tenth in being smoke-free, ninth in terms of physical activity and eighth in terms of being in a healthy weight-range.

It lacks behind when it comes to taking a healthy fruit and vegetable diet as 4 out of 10 get the recommended five servings a day.

"In a very short period of time, the face of heart disease in Canada has changed," Stephen Samis, director of health policy for the foundation, said in Toronto.
