Official figures have confirmed that the unemployment rate across Canada, for the month of January, unexpectedly slipped to 8.3%, which has been the lowest level recorded since September. The fall has been a substantial once from the figure of 8.4% recorded for December, as the economy managed to add 43,000 jobs.
All the numbers were shared by Statistics Canada said on Friday.
Experts had, on the contrary, predicted a rise in the rate of unemployment for the month, pegging the final figure at 8.5%, and a rise of a mere 15,000 jobs.
Almost all the newly added employment opportunities were part-time, which can be, to some extent, considered the first notable hike in youth employment since the sharp decline of 2008.
The rate of youth employment recorded a substantial decline, and fell to 15.1% for the month, compared to December's figure of 16.0%.
