Books printed by Macmillan (a unit of Germany's Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck GmbH) went back on sale on Amazon's Web site putting an end to the week long dispute between Amazon. com and Macmillan regarding e-book pricing. Amazon. com wasn’t offering print or digital versions of Macmillan books for sale. Macmillan CEO John Sargent has agreed to the specific terms of the agreement.
Lagardere SCA’s Hachette Book Group said it would seek more flexibility in pricing of digital versions of its books to challenge retailer Amazon. com Inc.
Hachette Chief Executive Officer David Young said that the new pricing model will give the company freedom to sell more books in digital formats. The new plan allows Hachette to make pricing decisions that are rational and reflect the value of our authors’ works, he added.
Amazon. com 1 said it would accept the publisher’s request to charge between $12.99 and $14.99 for new e-books. Amazon. com rose $1.45 to $117.39 at 4 p. m. New York time on NASDAQ. Lagardere fell 74 cents, or 2.7 percent, to 27.15 Euros in Paris.
