Reports and sources have speculated that Deutsche Telekom is looking at various options to try and revive its underperforming T-Mobile USA division. Options include an initial public offering or spin-off.
If sources are to be believed, Deutsche Telekom has already held initial talks with some major banks regarding the matters, but no formal or official process has yet been set rolling, and also, an IPO is just one of the many options.
Most Wall Street analysts, however, agree that an IPO would not be the best thing to undertake for the telecom company as of now, which is also looking at a sale, an organic expansion or maybe a partnership with another giant telecommunications firm.
"It may be more a trial balloon to gauge the market's assessment of what T-Mobile's value is either for M&A activity or an out and out IPO", said Scott Sweet, Senior Managing Partner at advisory firm IPO Boutique.
