Google threatens legal action against Chinese copycat website ‘Goojje’

Goojje

According to Shenzhen Economic Daily’s Monday report, Internet search giant Google has threatened legal action against a Chinese website, ‘Goojje,’ which is reportedly using a mirror image of the Google logo.

Google informed the state media that Goojje is clearly infringing on its trademark rights; and added that the Google logo replica of the Chinese website could likely give the users the impression that the site was either authorized by or linked to the US search biggie.

The Shenzhen Economic Daily report also said that Google lawyers have sent a letter to Goojje, asking it to stop using the Google-like logo from Monday, or else Google will have to resort to the legal route.

The legal-action warning to the Goojje copycat Chinese website comes at a time when Google is pondering over its future in China, after having stated earlier that it would not abide by the Chinese government’s censorship rules and might withdraw completely from the country after the alleged cyberattacks.

As per reports, it was Google threat of pulling out of China that prompted the last-month launch of Goojje, which has a team of 20 staff-members, led by a college student with the surname Wen.

Incidentally, the Goojje’s Chinese name ends with a character that stands for “big sister;” while Google’s Chinese name ends with a character which happens to be a homonym for “big brother”!
