House Majority Whip James Clyburn recently stated that if Congress does not prove successful in revamping health care, the Democrats looking to slap blame will not have to look much outside their own party.
Mr. Clyburn, however, stressed that he strongly believes that the reform will be happening with a series of bills, starting this week with a House measure to keep at bay the anti-trust exemption for health insurance agencies to bring more competition to healthcare sector.
A South Carolina Democrat, Mr. Clyburn has also called for a separate bill which would outlaw discrimination against people who have pre-existing medical conditions, in addition to one which would ban insurance companies from cutting out people when they contract a deadly illness and a bill which would outlaw lifetime limits of medical insurance policies, in addition to others.
"I think there is something wrong with saying to a man with prostate cancer that we are going to allow this insurance company to stop treating you. I think it's wrong to say to a young mother whose child is born with juvenile diabetes that we are going to allow insurance companies to deny you coverage for your child. These things are just fundamentally wrong, and I do believe that we are going to get to the point where people will rise up and say, 'enough already.' I think we're at that point", he said.
