Sony Losing Money on Each PS3 Sale

Although, Sony’s Play station 3 made a remarkable start after its launch and the sales figures for it are now looking rosier, yet, the company continues to lose money on the sale of each console.
Sony loses around six cents per dollar per PS3 sale, which is down from around 13 cents in the dollar, when the console was originally launched.
However, the company is expecting to make a profit on the sale of each console, from 2011 onwards.
“We think we’ve bottomed out and we can do fairly well going forward. It’s not unusual for a console company to make a loss on the hardware, making the money on the software royalties side instead”, Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer.
