The Science of Stem Cells
The Science of Stem Cells

Stem cells are cells that can effectively turn into any other type of cell, and are therefore considered one of the most powerful treatment options around. In the early embryo, stem cells divide in order to become every organ and tissue in the body, and adult stem cells generally lie dormant.

After an accident or injury, they activate, increasing tissue growth in order to effectively heal the wound. Also, in adults, stem cells can activate as a response to psychological and environmental signals.

Stem cells are highly beneficial when it comes to serving medical purposes, and these are equally beneficial for farmers as they can help with reproduction and growth.

"Now they are producing better bulls for farmers through genomic selection. Farmers are reaping the benefit", said Dr. Vish Vishwanath, of AgResearch, while talking about how stem cells can help in better production and benefit farmers and breeders.
