Apple is planning to bring iPhone OS to new platforms. According to a recent job posting, Apple is planning to leverage its work by transforming Mac OS X to work on other devices. Custom silicon will power those platforms like Apple's A4 processor that powers the iPad. Its main motive is to help bring Apple's iPhone OS, the stripped down operating system running on the iPhone and iPod Touch to new platforms.

Apple TV would be served with the applications via the App Store. It would be useful to run certain iPhone applications right on your television, but would also lend hand for specialized apps, which is developed specifically for the Apple TV. This would allow the developers to bring more functionality to the historically restrictive Apple TV without hacking.

Apple's new A4 chip architecture, which was made public for the iPad, would likely follow iPhone OS to new devices as well. The chip is undoubtedly powerful enough to drive HD content to the Apple TV. It might lead to cheaper and smaller versions of the device.

"OS X was always intended to be platform independent", said Steve Jobs.
