Microsoft’s New Policy Lets People Express Real Identities
Xbox Live

Microsoft announced that for the first time ever, Xbox Live members will be able to communicate about their sexual orientation, race, or religion in their gamertags and profiles.

A feedback of the service’s community has been collected, which has resulted in this update in Xbox live, according to Xbox Live General Manager Marc Whitten. While expressing one’s personal information, one can use the words like, “lesbian”, “gay”, “bi”, “transgender” and “straight”, either in a username or profile.

Whitten says, “Since the beginning, Microsoft has made an investment in the security and safety of Xbox Live and created tools and monitoring practices to ensure it is a fun and welcoming entertainment experience for people of all races, nationalities, religions and sexual orientations”.

The new policy will adhere to strict rules and will see to it whether the laws are enforced properly. Strict vigilance will be kept on the community members so that they may not offend any other member for expressing his or her real identity.

"I truly believe that our diversity is what makes us strong”, said Whitten of the 23-million member Xbox Live service, "diversity in gaming and entertainment options, and diversity in the people that make up this amazing community”.
