HP files patent-infringement lawsuit against MicroJet and three other companies

In its recently-filed patent-infringement complaint against MicroJet Technology and three other companies, the bigwig PC-maker Hewlett-Packard (HP) has said that the companies had infringed its patents related to printer cartridge.

Along with MicroJet, the three other companies sued by HP - which is seeking a court order blocking the alleged infringement as well as undisclosed damages - include Mipo and its Miami-based unit; SinoTime Technologies Inc.; and PTC Holdings Ltd. Of these, Mipo happens to be a MicroJet customer, while SinoTime and PTC are not related.

In the complaint, filed in the US District Court, Northern District of California, San Francisco, on March 5, HP also accused the companies of having converted over 300,000 "genuine HP printheads from HP facilities in Asia;" and selling them in the US, as well as other parts of the world, as products manufactured by a Hong Kong-based, Mipo Technology Ltd.

Meanwhile, the Hsinchu, Taiwan-based MicroJet Technology - the manufacturer of printer ink cartridges - said on Tuesday that it had not received any legal documents pertaining to the patent-infringement lawsuit filed by HP.

Refraining from commenting any further about the lawsuit, MicroJet spokesman Kuo Sen-pin informed Dow Jones Newswires that the firm neither sells its products in the US market, nor does it have any working relationship with HP.
