On Friday, the officials who decide on the availability of new web addresses will rethink about allowing .xxx. Though the suffix, which is aimed at adult websites, had been given consent formerly, the decision was taken back by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann) in 2007 after a protest from some conservative communities in America.
ICM Registry, a company that sells domain names, and is promoting .xxx to be made accessible, and has said that it expects to offer the suffix for sale by the end of the year. It is believed that adult sites would favor .xxx.
Meanwhile, the .God domain name is also in controversy. Last year, the Vatican has asked Icann to treat religion and the internet naming systems differently.
While, the Pope was worried that individual organizations might capture whole domains such as .catholic or .islam, two organizations are also protesting for control of the .gay domain name.
However, a decision will be made only after consultation among Icann members, so it is likely that it will take few months for the final decision to come out.
