Numerous reports issued recently suggest that many Americans and even President Barack Obama- are being over treated due to the overhaul and cost-cutting introduced in the health care system.
A combination of both is at work, however, new evidence and recently updated guidelines are recommending a step back and more thorough doctor-patient talks about risks and benefits of screening tests.
Obama's exam included prostate-cancer screening and a virtual colonoscopy. The PSA test for prostate cancer is revealed as a test that is not routine based and is not recommended for any age and colon screening is not recommended for patients younger than 50.
Americans, including the commander in chief, need to realize that "more care is not necessarily better care," posted cardiologist Dr. Rita Redberg, editor of Archives of Internal Medicine,, while posting her comments on Obama's recent physical.
Experts are reported to crop up a dispute over how much routine cancer screening saves lives.
However, not all doctors and advocacy groups criticize screening. But, many gainsay that it can improve survival chances and that saving even a few lives is worth it.
