Some recently released figures have been highly disappointing and very worrying as well. It has been revealed that a whopping 46 Million Americans are today living without any insurance, and over 9 Million of them are children. What would they do then in case they require urgent and expensive medical treatments? Nothing, I guess. They would most definitely not be able to afford it!
Living without health insurance is one of the biggest risks one can take, and no one should be uncovered, especially in today's times when most of the medical problems have good enough cures, more-so if detect early-on.
The biggest reason for so many people being uninsured today seems to be recession. In such difficult financial times, it is not easy to keep up with insurance policies and their premiums, more-so with all the unemployment and job cutting going on. People, it seems, had to pick between buying groceries and keeping their health insurance, and needless to say, the former won hands-down, and for a good reason too.
In such a scenario, President Barack Obama's healthcare reform bill seems to be just the thing which is needed. With a promise to provide insurance coverage to millions more Americans with the revamp, the bill looks to improve the quality of healthcare and coverage offered to the population of the country. While there are many who are currently opposing the bill and pledging that they would not let it gain approval, it seems to be the need of the hour.
Also, the bill would look to regulate the premium rises that insurance companies impose time and again. Under the legislation's new rules, each and every rate rise would have to be accompanied by a substantial justification. Just the thing we need right now, as many people are forced to drop their insurance policies because of the high premium rates.
We are now eagerly waiting for the weekend, when the bill is expected to be passed finally. Let's hope it sails through smoothly now, and people stop "living on the edge".
