The Duke University in North Carolina was donated $10.2 million by foundation established by Julian Robertson for their progressing study about treating kids suffering from cerebral palsy by the help of umbilical cord stem cells. The Robertson Foundation grant was revealed in an announcement by Duke University. The announcement stated that the money will help the research being conducted Dr. Joanna Kurtzberg.
Translational Cell Therapy Center at Duke University will be launched by the donated cash. This in turn will help the finding of treating cancer and genetic disorders by umbilical cord cells initiated by Dr. Joanne Kurtzberg and now being opted for further studies by other researchers.
Six-year-old Maia Friedlander case is one that has been treated on the same lines by the university and after being treated with umbilical cord blood stored in her body, father of the patient claims that improvement has been noticed.
Stating that the upcoming regenerative medical treatments come with great results, Chief Executive of the Duke University Health System, Dr. Victor Dzau, said that the donation will in fact be a great assistance for the cell-therapy study being practiced by Dr. Kurtzberg and other Duke researchers.
