Yahoo Launches Two New iPhone Applications

This week, Yahoo has launched two new iPhone applications. It includes an application in which you can draw a circle on the map to look for restaurants in a particular area that you want.

In this application, when the map of a specific area is launched using the GPS system, the user can draw a circle on the map. It will show all the restaurants in that area using push pins and these restaurants will be listed below the map. By clicking on any of the restaurants, it will show the user reviews and the photographs of that particular place and the user can get directions and can call the restaurants.

If the user doesn't wish to draw the circle and wants to locate the restaurants along the road, he/she can simply draw a line along the road to find the restaurants and by simply shaking the phone, the search is erased.

During the interview at the CTIA conference in Las Vegas, David Katz, Vice President of Yahoo Mobile's Americas region, said that this was the best way for the people who have a physical area in mind to do local searches. He also mentioned that this service was only available in USA and could only do restaurant searches, but they would soon move towards real estate as well.

The other application that Yahoo has launched is available in 22 countries and it works over voice commands to do searches on anything you want.

"Our view is it will continue to be this back and forth and give and take, and Bing will be a factor too", said Katz.
