Currently, many insurance companies do not allow adult children to remain on their parents’ plan once they reach complete 19 years of age. But, according to the new law, a child can stay on his or her parents’ insurance until he or she reaches 26.

Policyholders who fall ill will no more be dropped according to the new law, which earlier was done by several insurance companies.

This year, children will not be denied on the basis of their pre-existing health condition. Even adults can apply for coverage if they have a pre-existing condition, but not until 2014.
