Ford Fusion Hybrid reportedly the most efficient electric car

Ford Motor Company has unveiled its new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid electric car – which, built with next-generation hybrid propulsion system, is claimed to be the most fuel efficient mid-size sedan in the US. The hybrid technology used in the Fusion allows it to run up to 47 miles per hour in electric mode.

According to Ford, Fusion Hybrid has “a certified 41 m.p.g. rating in the city, and 36 m.p.g. rating on the highway.” The car’s technology allows a switch from gas power to electric. Like most hybrid cars, its built-in sensing element helps determine when the change from gas to electric, and vice-versa, is to be made.

As such, Fusion it built in such a way that it can run at higher speeds, and, at the same time, maintain fuel efficiency. In fact, Fusion produces 20 percent more power than the earlier models from Ford. It has 2.5-liters, 155-horsepower engine, with four cylinders. A hybrid-specific tutorial mode is a handy addition for the drivers.

In a statement, Ford’s vice president for global product development, Derrick Kuzak, said: “The new Ford Fusion Hybrid not only significantly exceeds the competition, but also embodies Ford’s 100 percent commitment to fuel efficiency leadership, quality, innovation and advanced technology.”

The EPA ratings for the Fusion Hybrid are better than those of its main competitor - the Toyota Camry Hybrid - by 8 mpg in the city, and 2 mpg on the highway. Its city rating also outdoes that of Honda Civic Hybrid by one mile a gallon.
