Implication of Health Care Reform on Medicare Premiums for Seniors

The many pronged health care reform brought about under the aegis of President Obama, may lead to a lower Medicare premiums for seniors and a more sustainable Medicare program.

This was revealed by an analysis of the legislation, which was brought out on Thursday night by distinct actuaries at the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The analysis proposes that the Medicare program will continue to be feasible till 2029. This projection is longer that what had been forecast earlier. It was said that prior to the health care reform, it was forecast that the Medicare would collapse by 2017.

However, it has been revealed that the healthcare law will increase the country's healthcare tab. The Federal Government is said to spend more than $800 billion in the coming decade in order to increase health coverage.

But the healthcare law also will push up the nation's total healthcare tab, as the federal government spends more than $800 billion over the next decade to expand health coverage to more than 33 million Americans, the analysts concluded.

It is reported that the spending will be compensated through new taxes and cuts in future Medicare spending. It was also revealed by the analysis that only if Congress succumbs to the planned cuts, will the program come through or else projected savings may never be achieved.
