Mascot sealion bites hand that feeds it in Hong Kong park

Hong Kong - An animal trainer at a Hong Kong theme park had to be taken to hospital after being bitten by a sealion, a radio report said Thursday.

The sealion bit the trainer on the arm during feeding time at Ocean Park, according to Hong Kong radio station RTHK. The injury is believed not to be serious.

The sealion is the official mascot of the park which has seen two animal attacks in the past month.

In December, one of the park's four giant pandas bit the leg of a female keeper who had been looking after him for seven years.

The attack by 22-year-old An An, whose name means peace, only came to light after a video of it taken on a mobile phone camera by a park visitor was circulated on YouTube.

An investigation is currently under way into why the panda, who was given to Hong Kong in 1999 as a gift from China, turned on its keeper. (dpa)
