Parkinson’s disease responds Positively to Brain Surgery

A new study has revealed some facts about the dreadful, Parkinson’s disease. It has found that the disease could be treated more effectively with the help of Brain surgery rather than being treated with medication.

The study was conducted on 366 patients in the United Kingdom, they were equipped with electrodes which transmitted an electric current in the brain. The technique has been named as deep brain stimulation, the purpose of the technique to regulate the movement of the brain and to act upon the tremors and stiffness.

According to general findings, one person in every 500 suffers from Parkinson's but is treated with the surgery only at the last stage after all the required medication. The brain simulator uses wire which is linked to a neurostimulator" instead of a pacemaker, which is equipped in the skin of the chest of the patient.

The researchers were from Bristol, Oxford, London, Liverpool and Birmingham who analyzed the participants for a period of one year, after the brain stimulation and they showed better and positive results.

Writing in Lancet Neurology, they said, Surgery is an important treatment option for patients with Parkinson's”.
