A study has revealed that a component in turmeric may help make cancer treatment become easier, as per reports. It has found curcumin, found in turmeric can help ovarian cancer cells become easier to treat through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Researchers have stressed that even very small amount of curcumin can have the anticipated impact. This research was carried out by a team from Sanford Research and the University of South Dakota, USA. Dr. Subhash Chauhan and Dr. Meena Jaggi led the research teams.
After studying the impact of curcumin on therapy-resistant ovarian cancer cells, researchers concluded that the dose of cisplatin and radiation treatment can be lowered significantly. This treatment is important to arrest the growth of cancerous cells.
This study had been published by BioMed Central’s open access Journal of Ovarian Research.
Experts have termed that these findings can really help a lot of patients but feel that more research is needed to understand the impact of this study. The research team is very enthusiastic from these initial reports and they hope to soon start laboratory trials of this research.
The lead researchers feel that pre-clinical animal models and in future clinical trials of this study will be started soon.
