It has been confirmed by the Australian research organization CSIRO, that Australia is constructing the world's largest solar power tower at the National Solar Energy Centre in Newcastle, which would be the first of its kind.
Dr. Alex Wonhas, the Director of the CSIRO Energy Transformed Flagship, states, "The new technology will pave the way for solar power of the future - solar power that only requires the sun and air to create electricity".
It is said that the service will be situated on about 4,000 square meters (43,000 square feet, or about one acre) of land. It is expected to be world's largest solar power Brayton (Joule) Cycle tower once it is complete.
The tower is situated at the CSIRO National Solar Energy Centre, which has its head quarters in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
The CSIRO solar power tower is said to comprise about 450 mirrors known as heliostats, which will throw sunlight onto a 30-meter (98-foot) tower.
It is said that heliostat is an instrument that keeps a track on the movement of the Sun by using a mirror.
A heliostat is re-directed continuously along a fixed axis to a motionless receiver based on the Sun's movement, across the sky.
