Seagate Launched GoFlex Family

Seagate launched an innovative GoFlex family that unites interchangeable cables with a number of storage and external connectivity solutions. This family consists of three components. The first is ultra-portable and desktop drives. The second component is storage system devices and the third is a whole host of interface cables.

It family includes nineteen new products, exclusive of different storage capacity options. For the first ever time Seagate will include an NTFS driver for Mac OS X on all GoFlex portable and desktop offerings, which will enable storage as well as access of files from both Windows and Mac computers.

Mosley, Executive Vice President, sales, marketing and product line management at Seagate said, "The GoFlex family of storage products meets this need by delivering simple, USB 2.0 storage and backup devices, with the flexibility to adapt as interface technology advances by using the various GoFlex cables and accessories to access content stored on the same drive".

Customers will have the liberty to use a standard USB 2.0, then upgrade to a faster USB 3.0 cable after they get a PC to go along with it. The cables don't need to be paired with the host controller, unlike conventional drives, as the cables just snap in, like extension cords.

The portable drives are available in320-Gbyte, 500-Gbyte, 750-Gbyte, or a terabyte, with prices varying from $89.99 on up to $189.99 for the terabyte option. An extra $10 will cost for a USB 2.0 cable.
