Flouting the record of a 652-meter long world's largest beaver dam, the Canadian ecologist here, have come up with another animal-shaped dam in the remote southeast areas of Alberto's Wood Buffalo National Park. The photographs have been released by Parks Canada, today.
Would you like to envision the exact dimensions of the world's biggest dam invented? Think about eight football fields starched end-to-end, all together; else imagine a one and a half times the stature of the CN tower! This is the height of the newly revealed dam, which is easily discernible from the space, too.
This dam is exactly located midway between the south tip of Lac Clair and park's southern border. The officials have made a flyover to scrutinize the mammoth size of this dam, and had learnt about it two years back. It is exactly located midway between the south tip of Lac Clair and park's southern border.
Around 10 to 100 meters long is the regular length of beaver dams found in Canada. But today, a Canadian Ecologist was able to discover an 850-metres long, animal-made structure dam, with the help of satellite imagery and Google Earth software.
"It's in one of the most remote areas you'll find in this park. It is quite literally in the middle of nowhere -- there are no roads, no navigable streams to it. The only way we can see right now is to land a helicopter there, and then take a two-day hike in", said Mike Keizer, Park spokesman.
Also, it was found out that this dam is over-grown with vegetation and there is a noticeable increase in the progressive satellite images since 1970s.
