Two Liberal MPs are appealing to Ottawa to give $10 million in financing for research on a possible cause of multiple sclerosis, chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency.
In a letter to Health Minister, Leona Aglukkaq, Liberal Public Health Critic, Dr. Carolyn Bennett and Liberal Health Critic, Dr. Kirsty Duncan request the Government to get involved in the rising national discussion whether MS patients should be examined and given treatment for a new vein disorder known by the acronym CCSVI.
The letter reads, "The MS Society has already committed to funding CCSVI research and now we are calling on the Government of Canada to do its part".
Studies have revealed that several MS patients have blocked or narrowed veins, which put off blood flow from the brain.
The MPs dispute that, just as heart patients are cured for blocked arteries, patients suffering from deformed veins should also get angioplasty to regularize blood flow.
They are anxious that patients are considering treatment to unblock these veins in other nations, when some say that the treatment could be provided here in Canada.
They also want that the Health Minister should summon a meeting of the districts and territories to talk about the theory and the angioplasty treatment.
