Facebook’s Policies ‘Unacceptable’
Facebook’s Policies ‘Unacceptable’

A new round of hostile response from over 400 million members is being faced by Facebook, which relates to its privacy guidelines. The grouse is over the issue that, the non-Facebook websites can post in their own comments on the Facebook users, without the latter’s assent.

Even if, it is a way to change the online know-how of people and to plea the marketers; yet it has sparked the concerns of privacy for others. A meeting of its employees has been called by Facebook to discuss the matter.

Bret Taylor, Director of Facebook Platform, said, “We're sensitive to it and take it seriously. But if Facebook adds more features and privacy settings, it can be complex for users”. With this, he also added, “the company extensively tests new features with members and polls them for feedback”.

Even if Facebook is taking the protest under serious consideration, but the news of four boys of NYU raising $100,000 to build a Facebook alternative; or that of a new-media marketing expert organizing an online protest, isn’t bothering the Website much. It is due to the fact that when Facebook had changed its simple layout, then also 2 million people had joined a group to protest! And also, the present protest does not appear to resonate with its board user base.

A suggestion has come up from Linda Criddle, President of Safe Internet Alliance, stating that there should be easy-to-understand instructions for privacy settings for a user who is signing up or registering on Facebook.

Special security features have also been declared by Facebook to battle spam and other malicious attacks on the site.
