Dell unveils luxury laptop, mini-laptop among other products

A host of new products were unveiled by Dell at the CES press conference on Friday, including a high-power gaming desktop, a USB TV tuner, a new netbook, and a mystifying luxury notebook - Adamo.

An ultra-light, high-end notebook, Adamo is about an inch thick with a 13-inch screen. It supports three USB ports and an eSATA jack, to plug in an external hard drive. The company did not allow the opening, holding, or even touching this luxury notebook which was on display, for a brief time, before journalists. All that could be seen was a thin, black laptop model, taken out of a bag!

Neither was Adamo - Latin for "to fall in love with" - turned on, nor did the Dell executives say anything about its specifications.

Though the cost of the laptop was also not disclosed, the release of the notebook, according to the company, will be "on schedule", in the first half of the year.

Meanwhile, the 10-inch Inspiron mini-laptop that was also unveiled is priced at $99, with a $350 mail-in rebate, and a two-year contract with AT&T wireless broadband service. The features of Mini 10 - which is powered by an Intel Atom Z530 processor - include a built-in TV tuner and integrated GPS technology, 802.11n Wi-Fi and 3G mobile broadband.

Attempting to get TV on the notebook or netbook, Dell has announced its $50 USB Digital TV Tuner, facilitating the viewing of over-the-air HD TV channels. The region-specific versions of the product will be launched first in Europe, and then the US and Asia.
