Bold And Sophisticated At The Golden Globes

Amy AdamsThe look was pretty, bold and sophisticated at the Golden Globe awards ceremony on Sunday, as Hollywood's well-known and unknown stars strutted down the red carpet in their finest gowns, strapless in bold colours, with black as the top choice, set-off with chandelier earrings. For once, fashion experts agreed, the bold and the beautiful made few fashion faux-pas or gave cringe-worthy moments, this year. According to Sasha Charnin Morrison, fashion director for US Weekly: 'It was really glorious, really stunning.'

Black and dark blue ruled though there were some bright coloured exceptions. Actresses Kate Winslet, Amy Adams, Sally Hawkins and Viola Davis, some of the Golden Globe nominees, played safe choosing black for Beverly Hills , California 's best-known event.

Davis, nominated for Best Supporting Actress for 'Doubt', wore a Max Azria plunging V-neck gown, she said: 'It made me feel a little bit sexy, and I needed to feel a little bit sexy tonight.' 'The Wrestler's' Evan Rachel Wood also wore a sequined and beaded gown Elie Saab plunging V-necked black gown, saying: 'People keep asking me how I picked it, but I think it picked me.'

According to style expert Michael O'Connor, blue and black are the big colors, paired with big, bigger, biggest earrings and chunky bracelets.

Those who chose blue over black were actresses -Anne Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Debra Messing and Sigourney Weaver, all in blue. Strapless gowns in all colors were the night's biggest trend, with Kate Winslet, Adams, Hathaway, Eva Longoria, Eva Mendes, Miley Cyrus and Freida Pinto all baring their shoulders, though there were some exceptions.

Pinto, who stars in 'Slumdog Millionaire' said, she was quite taken with her 'mustardy gold' gown by Christian Lacroix. 'When you wear one dress you feel absolutely 'wow' about, you have to wear it. And this one was it,' she said. Her gold chandelier earrings were in keeping with the other fashion trend of big, chunky jewellry. While, 'Doubt' star Amy Adams pair of leaves fashioned out of green gems and diamonds, had the red carpet watchers completely dazzled.

Standing out from the strapless dress and big earrings crowd were Angelina Jolie in a shiny, but simple silver-beaded dress by Versace, with Jennifer Lopez in a metallic gold dress.
