In a very fitting welcome to the first post-baby boomer president, his inauguration will be a celebration of rock, pop, country, opera, Latin and hip-hop, with President-elect Barack Obama getting to hear Stevie Wonder, his own 'musical hero' perform live at the next night's star-studded Neighborhood Ball: An Inauguration Celebration. We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial, will feature performances by various artistes, including U2, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Bruce Springsteen, Usher, Will. I. Am, John Legend, Sheryl Crow, Shakira and Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, and more.
The week long party with 10-official balls, whose entertainment has not yet been confirmed begins Thursday with D'Angelo's show in the Shadow Room, followed by HHC-sponsored show the next night at Ibiza headlined by Mary J. Blige and Nelly Furtado. Saturday night will herald the Green Inaugural Party headed by Wyclef Jean, while Gabrielle Union will host the BET Honors ball, in honour of Mary J. Blige, Tyler Perry and Magic Johnson, among others.
Dreams From My Father American Scholars Inaugural Ball on Sunday heats up with appearances by LL Cool J, Alicia Keys and Macy Gray, while the Voto Latino Inaugural Party has Rosario Dawson, Paulina Rubio, Wilmer Valderrama and Marc Anthony among its guests. Jessica Alba will host Declare Yourself's 'A New Birth of Citizenship' event, with sets from Maroon 5, John Legend, D. J. Samantha Ronson and 'special guests'.
Miley Cyrus, her dad Billy Ray, Bow-Wow, Ludacris, Beastie Boys, Young Jeezy, Demi Lovato will also rock D. C. this weekend, performing with The Jonas Brothers, at Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden's kid-friendly Concert for America's Children at the Verizon Centre. Rihanna, Usher and Shaquille O'Neal are scheduled for special appearances at the concert, aired live on the Disney Channel at 8 p. m. While, Russell Simmons hosts the Hip Hop Summit Action Network black-tie party, with Young Jeezy, LL Cool J and T. I., An Evening With Jay-Z at the intimate Warner Theatre will be backed by a full band, and the Old School Legends Ball has Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie.
The same night, Beastie Boys will perform at D. C.'s legendary 9:30 Club for an all-ages Hey, America Feels Kinda Cool Again inaugural gala, a Rock the Vote-sponsored party featuring Sheryl Crow, Citizen Cope and Justin Jones.
Inauguration day's Urban Ball hosted by Ludacris, will feature Big Boi, Monica, T-Pain, Eve and David Banner; the Creative Coalition gala will have actors Anne Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Josh Lucas, Elvis Costello and Spike Lee, among other celebrities; Cyndi Lauper, Rufus Wainwright and Melissa Etheridge will be at the LBGT community-sponsored Equality Ball; the RIAA/ Feeding America ball with Rihanna; the Neighborhood Ball is rumoured to have performances by Jay-Z and Beyoncé; and MTV and ServiceNation will co-host the Be the Change: Live From the Inaugural ball, with a number of yet-unnamed major acts.
The Be the Change: Live From the Inaugural event will be aired live on ABC on 20th January at 10:00 p. m. ET/ 7:00 p. m. PT, including the President and First Lady's first dance of the night. Scenes in Washington, D. C., New Orleans and Kenya in the days leading up to the event, including days that follow, will have wall-to-wall coverage courtesy MTV News.
