Tesco, the supermarket chain, is launching one of its own kind drive-thru-store at Baldock in Hertfordshire this week. It will be the first such store in the UK and would run on pilot basis initially. If it gets success, more such stores will be opened in other areas also.
The drive-thru-store will ease the problem of many who don’t like to shop on their own and those who don’t have time to wait for the delivery of the products shopped on internet.
"This will be especially popular with busy mums who have the school run and children's activities to manage”, said Laura Wade-Gery, Chief Executive of Tesco. com and Tesco Direct
Availing the services of this store, the customers can do their shopping online and can pick the same from the Tesco’s drive-thru-store within two hours of ordering them. They don’t need to park their cars and can easily collect their groceries, packed already by the staff at the said store.
The customers will require paying an amount of £2 for attaining the services of drive-thru-store, which is less than as compared to internet delivery’s minimum charges of £3.
Earlier, the Tesco group declared to introduce a Tesco Express store at Glasgow Airport in October or November, which would be Britain's first airport supermarket.
The drive-thru-store will remain open for seven days of the week and the order can be picked up till 9pm in weekdays.
The effort of opening drive-thru-store was welcomed by Consumer Focus Scotland. It stated that as the competition is growing in the food retailing, so Companies need to adopt innovative strategies to serve their customers in a better way.
