HIV-Positive Man Jailed For Transmitting Virus Into His Girlfriend

A man was sentenced to 12 months in jail for committing the most unusual, yet a detestable and a shocking crime. The man in question, 32 years old Nicholas Richards of Sittingbourne, Kent, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm.

The victim, a 19 years old girl who was pregnant with the 32 year olds baby, found out that she was HIV positive after a blood test during her pregnancy. However, luckily the baby was not transmitted with the virus.

Richards was sentenced to another 12 months for assaulting a 28-year-old man from Gillingham. The assault victim was left with serious injuries to his head and face. Richards was also sentenced with a five-year sexual offences order by Judge David Caddick; the order restricts Richards from having unprotected sex with anyone for the next five years.

Detective Chief Inspector, Simon Wilson, Kent Police, also commended the bravery shown by the 19-year-old victim in coming forward and helping the court to nail Richards for the behavior that has been meted out by him to others.

He further added that the vicious attack that he committed on the 28-year-old male victim further proved that Richards was a menace to society and that he deserved the two years in prison.
