The Sunday experienced the movement of a number of severely sick premature babies and their mothers from Women’s College Hospital to a new facility at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
The new 120,000-square foot facility was in proposal from many years. On Sunday, it marked its inauguration, with premature babies being shifted to incubators, onto stretchers and into ambulances.
Dr. Andrew Shennan, the Chief of Obstetrics at Sunnybrook expressed that the incorporation had been made as per a restructuring program that was required to deliver services more efficiently.
An individual nurse was provided to every baby moving to the new facility, as told by Dr. Jennifer Blake, Sunnybrook’s Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He added, “There is a lot of history in these walls (at Women’s College), but the staff are excited. We have a great new facility designed with input from families and our staff”.
The parents of the ill infants were glad shifting to a facility equipped with better services.
Amarjit Dhaliwal, whose daughter Saara Rose was born 27-weeks premature and was sent to the new hospital stated that the hospital staff is wonderful. He further talked about his niece, who was also born premature and was treated by the doctors of the hospital, who he expressed don’t just treat symptoms but also body, mind and soul.
