Cairns battling against dengue type three

The north Queensland city of Cairns is fighting against strain of dengue type three. 161 cases were recorded in Cairns whereas nine cases have also been reported in Townsville.

Authorities are worried about the fact that the virus was multiplying quickly making more and more people sick. Officials assured that government authorities are leaving no upturn to fight dengue.

Queensland Health's Dr. Linda Selvey said Cairns was dealing with the worst dengue outbreak Queensland had experienced since pre-World War II days.

Dr Selvey said: "We are really concerned how quickly the number of cases have grown, how quickly it has moved to a range of different suburbs, the short incubation time which makes it difficult to control, and the fact it's making people sicker.''

Dr. Selvey expressed worries over the fast increasing number of cases in different suburbs despite the hard work of concerned staff to control the further spread of disease.
