On Wednesday, the SlingPlayer Mobile for iPad was released by Sling Media, for the US and European markets. The app - which enables Slingbox owners to view and control content on the Apple tablet - is available via Apple's iTunes store for $29.99, or £17.99, or _23.99.
The SlingPlayer Mobile for iPad app, after installation, can be accessed via the Slingbox Solo or Pro-HD, sending TV content to the iPad. The app allows the users to change channels, control their DVRs, and watch their shows from any place with an Internet connection.
The app lets users view live media from their cable or satellite subscriptions, or stream content from their DVR, Apple TV, or even a compatible home security camera system.
The app boasts a revamped program guide for iOS's touch-friendly environment, and a "recent channels" feature facilitates users in getting back to what they were watching. The video quality of the app is notably better than that available on the iPhone app.
Referring to the new iPad app, John M. Paul - Sling Media's Executive VP of products - said: "A Slingbox is the perfect accessory to an iPad. When combined with the new SlingPlayer Mobile app, now anyone with an iPad can enjoy a beautiful, personalized TV experience anywhere in the world."
Meanwhile, Sling Media also noted that despite the release of the new app, the company's free SlingPlayer Mobile App will still remain workable on the iPad by the way of "compatibility mode."
