Though, New Year is a time of celebration for everyone, but, a recent study by researchers has found that children are one-thirds more likely to end up dying with SIDS on the New Year's Day. The scientists involved in the research have blamed the increased intake of alcohol by parents for the high death rate of infant on the day.
The surprising, yet intriguing study has been conducted by a group of scientists from the University of California, who had looked into the deaths of 129,090-children because of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. The deaths had happened between 1973 and 2006. The information regarding the fatalities was extracted from the database of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
According to the reason stated by the researchers, they have felt that drunken caregivers might not be following the recommendations that have been made for the safe sleep of a child. The recommendations for the safe sleep of an infant include like a child sleeping on its back, so that it does not asphyxiates itself to death.
Though, the mystery behind SIDS has still not been revealed, as many deaths have continued to remain unexplained. It needs to be remembered that SIDS happens to be a leading cause of infant mortality and happens to effect children in the category of 1-month to 1-year old.
