Honey Toast Helps Treating Hangover

A new study has suggested trying honey on toast to get rid of hangover effect as it is one of the best means to treat toxins.

The study was carried out by Royal Society of Chemistry, which found out that honey as natural sweetener helps suppressing toxins released in the body after drinking. The fructose containing products help breaking down alcohol in body into undamaging compounds.

Dr. John Emsley of the Royal Society stated that hangover i. e. nausea and headache experienced post drinking was caused due to the change of alcohol into acetaldehyde, a toxic chemical that lead to throbbing headache, nausea or vomiting. Adding to this, he told that the hangover mitigated as the chemical itself started turning into less toxic chemical.

Honey is rich in potassium and sodium, which are considered to treat alcohol toxins. So having a toast with a topping of honey could help relieving one of hangover. It can also be treated by drinking a glass of milk. Taking clear alcohol like gin or blending drink with soft-drink also cure hangover. Drinking a large glass of water after having alcohol prevents one from dehydration.

Emsley said, "The milk slows down the absorption of alcohol, which means there is less acetaldehyde for the body to deal with at any one time".
