In a speech at the Canadian Club of Toronto, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said, over the next three years, the proposed Green Energy Act would help create more than 50,000 new jobs, and make the province not only greener, but also stronger and in a better position to compete and win against the rest of the world.
The few details of the bill's ability to create jobs was provided, McGuinty said he would be introducing it in the Ontario legislature, sometime this month, making it easier and simpler to get new wind turbines, solar panels and bio-fuel plants online and plugged into Ontario's energy grid, establishing Ontario as a leader in North America in building renewable energy, encouraging energy conservation and creating green jobs.
The bill McGuinty says will help the government ensure the province's future by: "
- Supporting and expanding economic investment, in order to build a stronger and greener economy, thus creating an estimated 50,000-plus direct and indirect jobs, over the next three years. "
- Expanding usage of clean and renewable sources of energy in the province. "
- Better protecting Ontario 's environment and by combating climate change, giving the province a competitive advantage, leading it out of recession.
However, McGuinty refused to comment on whether Ontario will be able to avoid a structural deficit, saying it is difficult to say, as no one can predict how long the recession will last, warning Ontarians of bleaker times ahead.
This at a time, when Chris Buckley, the Canadian Auto-workers Presdent of Local 222 warns General Motors, which has yet to accept any financial aid offered by the provincial or federal government, may be pulling the plug on its Canadian operation, which currently employs 12,000 people across Canada .
The Green Energy Act by expanding Ontario 's use of clean and renewable sources of energy e. g. wind, solar and biomass, will hopefully better protect our environment, combat climate change, thereby creating a healthier future for the generations to come.
