Older People of Britain Contributed £40 billion to the Economy in 2010

The older people have changed the view of the people across the nation that older people are burden and drain on the society. They have made a contribution of £40 billion to UK economy in 2010. The amount is expected to rise to an estimated £77 billion by 2030.

The research showed that this contribution was made by people above the age of 65. The contribution was made through taxes, spending power and donations.

The research has found that more of the older people have started work for the society and remain healthier. These people have developed the community spirit and also help the vulnerable people. These people have increased the spirit of staying independent for longer.

Lynne Berry OBE, Chief Executive of age charity WRVS says that not only they have made a financial contribution but they also play a vital role in the society. But their contribution often gets overshadowed by the negative attention given to the costs of future welfare in an ageing population.

Lynne Berry added that WRVS has 45,000 volunteers which are an example of community spirit and they want to celebrate these real social networks.
