Surely the tech watchers were little surprised when Facebook launched the Comments Box social messaging widget for Facebook Connect. Actually, the social widget was announced when many of its users were agitated and discontented by its new terms of service, even though the website retreated to the previous terms of service.
Facebook's first social widget for its Facebook Connect application, the "Comments Box" will facilitate to further integrate Facebook Connect into Web sites and blogs. It will allow Facebook users to post their opinions on outside Web sites and blogs. Using their Facebook account information, it will let the users to sign on to other sites and blogs, and will let them post their opinions. It will also allow the non-Facebook users to post comments about sites as well. It will not only let the users to post comments the outside Web sites, but also their Facebook profiles and share them with other subscribers.
According to Facebook, the users will be able to manage the privacy and permissions of their comment boxes on an individual or widespread basis, and the widget will be customizable, allowing developers to specify background and text color and moderate comments.
On the Facebook Developers blog Feb. 19, a Facebook engineer, Ray He wrote, "The Comments Box is a great way for any Web site, blog or photo gallery to add social comments to their page in just a minute with a few lines of code."
"One of the most common features we've seen sites add with Facebook Connect is the ability to allow users to log in with a single click and comment with their real name and profile photo from their Facebook account. Sites have seen as much as [40 to 50 percent] more comments since they . added these features," He wrote.
